1. Which weapons to use after research is done:

In regard to weapons, you will have to remember that everyone of your designs must be focussed when it comes to weapons. That means that if you want to put Homing Black Holes and Distortion Blasters on your ships, you should make one design for the Homing Black Holes and another for the Distortion Blasters.

The main level 5 weapons are as follows:

  • Homing Black Hole (HBH) - This is the one most powerful weapon in ArchSpace. It delivers the most payload in one shot then any other weapon, and often shooting first with this weapon means annhiliation of ((0.5~0.75)*x where x is number of ships in your fleet firing) enemy dooms. Needless to say this weapon should be on most of your dooms.
  • Distortion Blaster (DB) - This is quite a powerful weapon and wreaks absolute havoc if set upon a lot of small ships. It has one of the fastest firing rates, and is most dangerous when in the hands of a Xesperado commie that has Ballistic Expert and Artifact Cooling Engine for its special Abilities. Also nicely combined with DNA poison replicator for the Targoid commies. Its ideal use is as clean up crew after initial shots of HBH have been fired. However, it should be used at approriate ratios of something like 1:6 or 1:5 to your other HBH ships, which should be your main armada, upfront. Preferably make your DB dooms stay far behind your main fleet.
  • Nahodoom Ray Launcher (NRL) - To the lucky few this is the weapon of that will anhhilate the worlds and scour your enemies :) It does approximately half the damage of HBH, but it shoots eight times as often. Having this weapon as your clean up crew is most important, if you have it. Its best used in ratio of 3:4 or 4:3 to your other doom fleets. Leave em behind your dooms, so that your armada will be most effective.
  • Only these three weapons are really worth using for any race. Some psychic races may consider Psychic Weapons:

  • Psi Blaster is useful early on, but their effects are useless in most situations. If your opponent is evil, then it may yet prove to have some use. I don't know yet, do experiment and report your findings.

  • Psi Storm Launcher has been changed into a faster firing weapon. It will fire roughly once per 3 shots of Distortion blaster and do 40% less damage. However it has nearly 100% more attack rate, can fit 25% more of it on a ship and has farther range, all advantages, but IMHO still too weak a weapon.

    2. Which weapons to use during research:

    Now there are a few things that you might want to use early on in the start. When you abosolutely have nothing but Nuclear Missles, Rail Guns and Lasers, you should build a few destroyers (not to much) with Nukes, they will be your meat shields in the coming battles. If you are a Psi race, use Psi Blaster. After which you wish to get Fusion Missles. These are far more effective then other weapons. Usually, early on battles are all decided in the first volley and there are no ships left standing to take advantage of the faster weapons like Gatling Rail Gun.

    Next comes Anti-Matter Missle. It is an improvement over your Fusion Missles in nearly every way, so you want it. Equip it and start using it, and when you get Osscillation of Dissonance (OoD), you may want to use that on some of your capitol ships, but not too much, try to keep to a minimum.

    Next step in the evolution of warfare comes the Nova Torpedo (NT), its even better then your Anti-Matter Missles, so start upgrading your ships (make ships with NT and destroy earlier ships or send them out on Strategetic Suicide Missions). Do not use Osscilation of Dissonance anymore, as it is weaker then Nova Torpedo!

    Finally before you get Distortion Blaster and Homing Black Holes, you get Timewake Homing Missles. These should be used for a day or two until you finally research Reverse Entropy.

    These are basically all the weapons that you will need.
